[Flooding at Jacobia, Texas]

This is a photograph of three people in a boat during a flood at Jacobia. The inscription on the verso does not offer a potential date or potential figures in the boat. The hairstyle matches that of Sammy and Jean McKinstry in the early to mid 1920s, but they never lived at Jacobia. Such hairstyles would not have been on children when the Swanns lived at Jacobia. I believe this is from a later flood. This photograph may depict Sam, Loveta, and Sammy McKinstry.

Evidence

  • There is no solid way to date this photograph. The verso suggests this was before the Austin Swann family moved west to New Mexico in the late 1900s, but the hairstyle of the child suggests 1920s. It may have been taken on a trip that the McKinstrys took to east Texas.
